Why has the concept of UI and UX become popular nowadays?
Let’s dive in together to learn about these two most common terminologies.
🎯 The user interface, or UI, describes how a human interacts with a machine. It is also the way through which a user interacts with an application or website.
The increasing reliance of many businesses on web applications and mobile applications has led many companies to give more priority to UI to improve the overall user experience.
User interfaces are the access points where users interact with the design. They come in three formats:
- Graphical User Interface (GUI) — Users interact with a visual representation on a digital control panel. The desktop of a computer is a GUI.
- Voice-Controlled Interfaces (VUIs)— Users interact with them through their voice. Most smart assistants—eg, Siri on the iPhone and Alexa on Amazon devices—have VUIs.
- Gesture-based interfaces— Users interact with the 3D design space through physical motions: for example, in virtual reality (VR) games.
🎯 User Experience (UX) focuses on having a deep understanding of users, what they need, what they value, their capabilities and also their limitations. UX best practices promote improving the quality of user interactions and perceptions of your product and any related services.
User experience (UX) design is the process design teams use to create products that provide meaningful and relevant experiences to users. UX design involves the design of the entire process of receiving and integrating a product, including aspects of branding, design, usability, and function.
UI is often talked about as a combination of user experience (UX), which can include the aesthetic appearance of the device, the response time, and the content presented to the user in terms of the user interface.
Both terms fall under the concept of human-computer interaction (HCI), which is a field of study focusing on the creation of computer technology and the interaction between humans and all forms of IT design. Specifically, HCI studies areas such as UCD, UI design, and UX design.
